Young anglers from Mostar secure spots on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national fly-fishing team.
Young Mostar anglers Alem Torlo and Davud Dupovac Trbonja have achieved a significant sporting success by earning a place on the Bosnia and Herzegovina national fly-fishing team.
Both began their journey in the sport through the Fly Fishing School, jointly organized by the Sports Fishing Association (USR) “Neretva 1933” Mostar and the “Together for Rivers” initiative. Through continuous work, education, and training on the water, they developed the skills that ultimately earned them a place on the national team.
Their success highlights the importance of working with young anglers, as well as an approach that, alongside sporting development, involves connecting with nature, promoting a responsible attitude toward rivers, and raising awareness about their protection.
The Blagaj Eco Center says this achievement demonstrates how investing in young people and their education can produce tangible sporting results while also helping create generations that will responsibly safeguard natural resources.
For Torlo and Dupovac Trbonja, earning a place on the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team is not the ultimate goal. Their ambitions are already focused on next year and the World Championship, where they will have the opportunity to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina on the international stage.
The success of the two young Mostar anglers is therefore both a sporting story and confirmation that projects focused on young people, nature, and river conservation can help nurture new generations of successful athletes and guardians of our waterways.
