Knowledge is Passed On: Senior Students Mentored the Younger Ones
Another successful and engaging Fly Fishing School class was held, marked by creativity, learning, and mutual support. This time, the focus was on one of the most important segments of fly fishing – fly tying. Participants had the opportunity to try making their very first flies, becoming familiar with the basic tools, materials, and techniques necessary for creating quality imitations of aquatic insects.
With great patience and concentration, the young fly fishers carefully followed each step – from setting the thread, adding the tail and body, to tying the final knot. Although for many this was their first experience with fly tying, the results were more than encouraging. The pride and satisfaction on their faces after completing their first fly clearly showed how important this process is for their further progress in fly fishing.
Special value was added to the class by our senior students – Faris, Davud, and Eman – who, through hands-on work and direct support, shared their knowledge and experience with the younger participants. Their dedication and willingness to help once again demonstrated the importance of building a community where older members pass on knowledge to younger ones, ensuring continuity and strengthening the team spirit of the school.
This class was not only technical training, but also a lesson in patience, precision, and perseverance – qualities that are equally important on the river as they are at the tying bench. Through socializing, exchanging advice, and working together, participants further strengthened their friendships and deepened their love for fly fishing and nature.
This activity was carried out within the initiative United for Rivers, which brings together organizations and communities across Southeast Europe with the goal of protecting and preserving our rivers.
